This is the page for the vanilla (original) or 1.0 version of the charter. We feel it is vital that the charter have plenty of freedom to copy and modify. This means that a group or person might need to say that they are signatories of a specific version of the charter. To that end this is called the No Bullies Charter 1.0 (draft)

[edit] Introduction

This charter is a public document intended to be used to aid in the making of a stand against online bullies. By becoming a "signatory" of this charter you are saying that you will exclude and ignore socially anyone you see who commits acts of bullying and refuses to stop when asked.

It is vital that the opportunity always be given for every person to apologise and change their ways. After all this is not a charter for bullying.

• To bully is to deliberately act in anyway that might cause physical, spiritual or emotional harm to another being.
• Bullying is the singling out of another and/or the on going cruelty against, meanness to or humiliation of another, with the intention of spoiling the enjoyment, life, participation, fortune or happiness of another. Be that other a person or group of persons.
• Bullying includes but is not limited too: Slander, Malice, Public Ridicule, blocking of access, reduction of standing, spreading of lies or the constant repetition of past actions long after they should be laid to rest.

We do not like bullying. We aim to eliminate it where ever we see it. We intend to do this by making bullying too expensive socially to be worth while.

We vow to do our best to not bully not even to appear to bully. We aim to play nice but recognise that humans are driven by their passions and might fail. Because of our recognition that we are human we hope to be forgiven our failures just as we shall try to forgive others their failures.

[edit] Actions we shall take

We vow to be proactive in stopping bullying in all its forms. We vow to take specific action to achieve this end.

We refuse however to bully bullies. We shall not become like that which we dislike but shall rather aim to be better and lead others on that noble path.

[edit] Action on seeing Bullying

On seeing a bully in action we vow to offer a single chance to the bully to change. If the bully refuses we shall publicly request the end to the bullying. Should this fail we shall escalate the issue to the social leaders should such exist in that context and should they fail to act or the bully fail to change their ways we shall exclude the bully from all social contact. We shall block their email addresses and add them to ignore lists where ever such facilities exist.

We shall shun the bully totally.

[edit] Action on seeing a request to stop

We vow that should we see a valid public request to stop bullying that we shall add our voice to the request saying "I too wish for you to stop bullying". Following this we shall join with the originator to escalate the matter to whatever social leaders that exist and as required the total exclusion of the bully from all social contact with ourselves.

[edit] Action on false or poor allegations

We vow that when we see an allegation of bullying (request to stop) that is unfair or unjust with little hope that the person so requested be able to change or do anything so that the accusers will be satisfied then we shall add our voice to the defence of the accused.

We shall publicly state that "if you exclude this victim then shall also have to exclude me too."

To this statement we shall add our belief that the request is an act of bullying and request it be stopped.

We shall do all that is in our power to resolve the conflict peacefully and fairly.
